Lamest Event - ACES day

"All Children Exercising Simultaneously" aka ACES day is one of the lamest and gayest event of the year. Every year, students from Primary and Secondary schools in Singapore have to do the Great Singapore Workout as part of a National Healthy Lifestyle Campaign.

Do children get healthy just by doing a half-hour workout once per year? No!

If the government really wants children in Singapore to have a healthy lifestyle, set a compulsory period of time to be allocated to Physical Education every week! Currently at Deyi, students only get 45 MINUTES of PE every week! WTF?! Is that even enough to keep you healthy? There should at least be 2 hours of PE every week, or maybe even a morning jog for all students. It is no wonder that kids in Singapore are indoor-bound and choose library as their CCA, LOL!

I quote this from MOE's website:
The mission of the Education Service is to mould the future of the nation, by moulding the people who will determine the future of the nation. The Service will provide our children with a balanced and well-rounded education, develop them to their full potential, and nurture them into good citizens, conscious of their responsibilities to family, society and country.
Does "providing our children with a balanced and well-rounded education" mean to give heavy loads of homework and near-zero physical education?
I think that Education Minister Tharman's priority now is to improve on Singapore's extreme indoor-based education system. Sports promote teamwork, a healthy lifestyle and helps to build an all-rounded student.

My point is, schools in Singapore do not emphasize much on Physical Education. This is clearly shown when there is only ONE period of PE among the 50+ periods on the weekly time-table. This issue has been brought up in the Straits Times Forum page, I'll definitely be reading in interest about this. :)
