Start of mid-year exam - Finally

The mid-year exams have finally started, and it was GP today. It was raining very heavily this morning and a quarter of my pants, and my entire shoe was wet when I got to school. I had to take the exam in this condition. I wrote the topic "Good governments always make unpopular decisions. How far is this true in Singapore?" There were no questions in sports, and the other questions were on topics I am unfamiliar with, like religion, philosophy and medicine. I had difficulty starting the essay. I could think of all the unpopular decisions like CPF cuts, transport fare hikes, extensive media blockage. Also, the question is phrased in the way that its implying Singapore's government is good, and thus I had to follow suit. I could think of the five-day work week as the only popular decision. I just couldn't think of other popular decisions... or were there at all? :)

Next up are the 4 A level subject papers. I have not really prepared for Chemistry yet. Still struggling. I heard from my friend that the Chem paper will be very tough, good luck to me.

World Cup!

It's already more than a week into the World Cup, and it's been very exciting! Argentina thrashed S&M 6-0 yesterday! It's a huge pity I didn't bet on that match. I've been betting for several matches and starting to get sick of it. I don't know why I don't like gambling. I can get tired after a few rounds of mahjong or card games. My friend who is a soccer fanatic, bets more than $30 a day. I'll probably automatically stop betting next week when I get bored of it.

I went shopping for clothes with my friends yesterday at Queensway Shopping Centre. I must admit that I very seldom go shopping and don't know what stuffs to look out for. We walked around for like 2 hours, and I finally bought 2 shirts. But I kind of regret shopping at Queensway as the shirt designs of every shop look almost the same! I spend $23 on this red t-shirt, and found out that the colour runs... If it's a $10 shirt, it'll probably be expected. But for a $20+ shirt? Gosh... Queensway is really not a place for newbies to shop at. Ah well... at least I learnt my lesson.

Later on we went to Cafe Cartel @ Marina for dinner. The pork chop was great, and we shared this Viking ice-cream which had 10 scoops of chocolate and vanilla ice-cream.
Yesterday would have been a superb day if not for the stupid red shirt I got cheated of. Argh.

Movie! and more

I went out with my friends to catch the movie She's The Man at Plaza Singapura. It was a hilarious comedy, and I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking for a movie to watch.

Later on we went to Marina Square to have dinner and shop around. We passed by Carl's Jr and wanted to try it. But the meals were around $10 each, and we figured it wasn't worth the money. I wonder what's so special about Carl's anyway. I'll probably try it out some day. In the end, we settled for Han's. It was kind of like PastaMania where you had to order the food yourself and the ambience was simple. The price was reasonable too I guess. I ordered a chicken chop meal which came with a drink, a slice of toast and a slice of cake. It cost $8.80.

I'll probably go shopping for clothes soon. I'm beginning to realise that my clothes are getting old and I'm always wearing the same few shirts. It's probably because I'm usually lazy to go shopping and seldom buy clothes. My friend however is the total opposite of me. Yesterday we went out together, he stepped into the OP store and bought a shirt within 3 minutes of shopping. Ha, I wonder if I'll ever do that.

Anyway, World Cup's finally here! Tonight is Germany vs Costa Rica. I'll definitely stay up to watch this opening match, which is pathetically one of the only FOUR matches MediaCorp is broadcasting. I do not fall into the dark side by paying StarHub additional $15 for the WC package. I am already paying them a premium price of $15 per month for the normal sports group, and yet I'm not entitled for the WC matches. Speak about the evil of monopoly! I also heard that StarHub jammed the TV signal for Malaysia's RTM1 channel as it had FREE-TO-AIR broadcast of many WC matches. Blarh. Damn, I hate monopolies! I'll probably switch my Internet access to SingNet, and cancel my CableTV account with StarHub if there's a competitor CableTV provider entering the market. I've had enough of StarHub's underhand tactics.

Activity-filled day

Woah, today was one hell of a tiring day.

In the morning, I met up with my Sec sch friends to play basketball @ NYJC. We played for about 4 hours before we were completely worn out and decided to rest. We then went for lunch at PastaMania in PS. I notice that food in PastaMania makes you get sick of it after a few spoonfuls. All of my friends agreed, and I'll probably make PastaMania my secondary choice for meals. By then it was already 3pm. I was meeting up with my NJ friends at 5pm. So I decided to go to Orchard and walk around by myself.

I went to Wheelock place and browsed around at Borders for about 1hour. I then went up to the AppleStore and browsed for a short while. I had lots of time to kill. I wanted to sit down somewhere for a drink, but everywhere was so crowded with people. I then bought a cup of sugarcan juice and walked around. By 5pm, I was waiting for my friends @ Orchard MRT. But argh, they were 30 mins late. Once they reached, we went around Wisma Atria and Takashimaya to shop for a present for my friend's birthday. By 7pm, we still couldn't come to a decision. We went to a Japanese restaurant at Cineleisure for dinner, and spent almost 2 hours there eating and chatting. By the time we finished, the shops were already closing and we didnt manage to buy the present.

Albeit exhausting, it was a very fun day. I'll now go lie down and have a good rest.
