Relaxing Sunday

Woah, I woke up at 9am today, thats a hard-to-get 3 hours more sleep time than usual school days. We planned a badminton and KTV session at Temasek Club today. My aunts, uncles and cousins were there too.

My family and I went to a food court at Henderson Road for lunch first. The food was great.
I then passed by Henderson Community Centre and Gan Eng Seng Sec School, which were mentioned to me by Doreen before. I cannot imagine the time spent travelling from her area to NYJC everyday.

My cousin bought a new Yonex racquet and it was extremely light. Later on I played basketball, and two girls joined us. One sec 2 and the other sec 4, they both were sporty, outgoing and cute. Halfway through, someone came over with a camera requesting to film us for a corporate video, we gladly agreed. :D

Teachers' Day is just around the corner, I'm still thinking of what gifts to get for my teachers, or whether to even get gifts at all. Well, I do owe a huge lot to my secondary school teachers' mentoring and guidance.

Exactly one month to promos...

Quite free today

I had my Physics lecture test today, found it quite easy, I think many people will score in it. Later on, there was a senior civil servant talk in the hall by the CEO of Arts Council. It was on Singapore's economic competitiveness. I've heard about it through the National Day Rally and Economics lectures, thus I found it quite boring.

I played badminton after school with a few classmates, quite fun and I get to exercise.

And, after very much consideration, I've decided to start the flying course this year. I'm mentally prepared for the heavier workload that I'll have to handle. But it's fortunate that the flying lessons start after my promos, which is a huge relieve for me. I really, really want to get the PPL and I'm going to work very hard for it! My ambition to be an Air Force pilot is now a small but important step closer. I've always dreamt about the flying experiences, and I'm finally going to get them now. I've been playing Microsoft Flight Simulator since last year and I hope it'll help me get used to the aircraft controls more easily.
Even if I cannot get into the Air Force, I can still fulfill my ambition by applying to become a commercial airline pilot. I just want to fly a plane!

I have 2 friends whose fathers are Air Force pilots. They seem to have the same opinion that the job is very tough. You have inconsistent working shifts and the stress level is very high. I really don't know what lies ahead of me. I just have the make those important decisions when the time comes.

It was a very warm and humid day. Everyone was on the verge of sleeping during every lesson, but Mrs Chan was kind enough to allow us 20 mins of rest during her 2-hour long tutorial. After that was a Chinese test. I found it easier than previous tests and exams. Hopefully the A-level would be of such standard. I almost dozed off reading the comprehension passage as the room was air-conditioned and it was so silent. But I managed to stay awake throughout the 1hr 30mins.

It's Saturday tomorrow! Finally I can have more sleep tonight. "Friends" on StarWorld later at 11pm!:D EPL action tomorrow evening, plus Formula 1 on Sunday! Wow! :D :D

Confused, in dilemma, well?

I went down to SYFC yesterday afternoon. In the room, there were 19 other successful applicants, some accompanied by parents, awaiting the GM's arrival. I then realised that I have been accepted by the flying club. It was a huge boost to my confidence after I pass my first ever major interview. It took me great pains to undergo a tedious medical checkup and later a selection interview, so as to be accepted for the flying course. But now I need to choose whether to start the lesson this year or 3 years later, after National Service. I would not have been caught in this situation if I had applied earlier. I was actually the last few JC students to apply for the course.

If I were to start in October this year, the course would stretch until October next year, which will coincide with the JC prelim exams, and maybe even the A level exams. I would then have to juggle two very important factors in my life - flying school and academics. I have always aspired to be a pilot, but this is a real dilemma. I would not be facing this problem should I be studying in polytechnic now, cause its a 3 year course.

If I decide to start the course after NS, my hopes to enter the Air Force is as good as gone. Well, I could still be a commercial airline pilot though. But I do want the challenge and the extremely rare experience of being an Air Force pilot, flying the F-16 fighter jet or the C-130 transport aircraft.

My friend today announced that he will leave school for a year to pursue his dream of applying into a prestigious music school in America. He is willing to take the risk of lagging behind everyone so as to pursue his dream. Should he fail the application, he would have to start from J1 in 2006. I really admire his determination and decisiveness. If he were me, I'm sure he would have already picked an option.

If I were to start this year, it is a real gamble with my academics. Probably entering a Polytechnic would be a better choice afterall...

Long weekend

This year's National Day holiday stretched for virtually 5 days long. Monday was the NDP celebrations in school, Tuesday was a public holiday and today is a school holiday.

The NDP celebrations in school was dampered by the wet weather. We were supposed to have a few fun outdoor games, but the rain restricted us to playing an indoor memory game which was boring. After the celebrations, I played badminton with a few of my classmates for about 2 hours. Later on, I went to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Wilson, Jiamin, Yoke Teng and Ian. I didn't think that the movie was spectacular, contrary to my friends' critiques. I am more inclined to movies like War of the Worlds. By evening, I started to feel fatigue from the badminton game. I had a slight headache but was still able to go on. We then had Japanese ramen for dinner at PS. When I got home, I slept immediately after a bath.

On Tuesday, I went for a chalet at East Coast Park's Coasta Sands. There were only 4 people present, so the atmosphere was not really good. The chalet was located far away from the main recreational areas. We had to walk about 15 minutes to the food centre. We bought dinner back to the chalet from that food centre. I was expecting to see the fireworks and F-16 flypast from the Padang, but the view was blocked out. After watching the NDP, we played Mahjong from 9pm to 4am the next morning. Blerh~! We then slept for about 6hours till 10am before checking out. We then had breakfast at McDonalds and then left for home. I am still feeling quite lethargic because I'm not used to sleeping very late.

The holidays are over just like that. Time really flies when you're enjoying it.

Tekong field trip and more...

My college field trip to Pulau Tekong was a fruitful one. It gave me insight to the life that I'll experience about a year from now after I enter the army. There were recruits running around the camp in their sports attire, whole body perspiring. It is like having PE the whole day for 3 months!
The guided tour started out with an introduction to IPPT, the physical fitness test of the army. It's somewhat similar to NAPFA except the exclusion of sit-and-reach and the higher standards. Then we got the chance to try out the M16 rifle simulator. There was this area with so many individual computerised M16s. The system is able to calculate accuracy and identify errors in the shooting techniques. Next, we tasted combat ration. It was food vacuum-packed in dark green packets. There was the main course packet, and also a dessert packet. It's quite a delicacy considering eating them after hours of tough training in the jungle, or during a real war. The red bean soup dessert was tasty. My friends took home several packets of combat rations, and I was left with none. Anyhow, I got to try the much sought-after fruit bar snack. The snack was gone before I reached the table. But at the end of the tour, I took it from the display table as we were the last group, hehe.

It was a long day at school today. We had an extra math lecture from 5 to 6pm. I played basketball in between the 2-hour long free period before the math lecture. NYJC organised this 3-on-3 basketball competition for the students. My friend's team almost made it to the final four if not for referees who ruled them out because of inferior points difference. (Who in the world uses soccer's points difference for ranking in basketball tournaments?! Even the NBA does not do that!) I really feel sad for them. Their team is really strong. Screw the team who got through because of superior points difference!

Blog site update:
I've temporarily removed the tag-board as it greatly slows down the loading of the blog when it is down.
---

Today's PE lesson was fun, we played badminton. Credit goes to NYJC's PE program which enables me to improve my badminton skills. I can now do overhead hits and serve the shuttle properly. After school, I played a badminton doubles game with 3 other classmates for about an hour. I was drenched with perspiration after the game, really a great form of exercise. I really regret not playing badminton competitively in Secondary school.

I signed up together with many of my classmates, for a trip to Pulau Tekong tomorrow. I'm not really sure about the details, but it'll definitely be an eye-opener for me as it'll be my first time visiting the military installation just about a year before my National Service when I'm 18 years old.

National Day is just round the corner. There'll be no lessons on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I hope to go out with my friends during the break.

My maths lecturer announced that there'll be an extra lecture this Thursday from 5-6pm! Lessons end at 4.10pm for me on that day, and there's still this mind-draining and boring lecture following up.

Sigh! I really look forward to the National Day holidays next week!
