I had my first PE lesson at NY today. It was a mass pe lesson where every science student taking economics had to participate. We did a few pullups, followed by pushups, abdominal and leg exercises. I was expecting to run around the track, but the pe lesson ended up quite relaxing as compared to NJ's.

After PE was a mathematics lecture, and then it was lunch. During lunchbreak, my friends and I played volleyball in the hall. Although it was very fun, I ended up sweaty and had to cleanup myself in preparation for lectures after that.

The last lecture ended at 4:10pm. By then all my friends had already went home, thus I took a bus to the stadium and went for a jog. It just seems to refreshing after jogging, quite like a stress-reliever.

The JC appeal deadline has already passed... my AJ hopes are gone already. I've to try to adapt to the culture and life of NY asap. I'm still in the process of setting personal goals for my 2-year period in JC...

Tomorrow is the NY CCA bazaar. I'm deciding between ODAC and dragonboat. ODAC seems fun, and is only twice a week. Dragonboat will definitely strengthen my character but I'm afraid that it might be too heavy a CCA, leaving me with little time for academic work.

My friend asked me today whether I'm interested to join the SG Youth Flying Club. It's definitely a very exclusive and fun activity to join. But then again, it requires me to fly at least 3 times in two weeks. School ends at around 4pm daily, and that leaves me with Saturday and Sunday to attend flying lessons... Again, I don't know if I'll be able to handle the workload.

I definitely need time management lessons!

Mon@NY

It's the beginning of my first week at Nanyang. The orientation period is over, and I've to begin to work hard again. Still no call from Anderson regarding my appeal, probably it has failed. At least NJC called up failed applicants...

I reached school at around 7:10am today and met up with my friends. The assembly was on the running track, everyone seemed so far apart. I could not even see the parade commander's face. The assembly followed up with several talks by the principal and HODs, very boring. My friends and I decided to leave school and went J8 for a movie and lunch. We watched Miss Congeniality 2, quite an exciting movie, even though I did not watch the first series. Stella then joined us after the movie for lunch. I went home after lunch after what seemed to be a boring day at school.

On the way home, the TRP members sms'd me to ask if I wanted to join them for a movie at wilson's house. His condo was cool, we took a lift up and it was already his home. Everyone was already there watching the first part of the movie, the aircon was freezing. We watched White Chicks and it definitely gave everyone a good laugh. They all played mahjong later on, and then went home. Today's TRP outing was quite fun. I guess when school starts and when the workload begins to add on, there'll be little time for such outings. Just hope that we can all find time for another outing soon...

Boring Day...

I woke up at around 9am today, feeling really tired probably because I slept at around 12 midnight. As usual, I ate breakfast and flipped through the papers and surfed the web. England won N. Ireland 4-0, impressive performance!

Then I received a msg via MSN from Roxanne. Problems cropped up on her computer and she asked me for help. Before that, she actually called up some unknown technician found on the newspapers, to her house to help her fix the computer. Not only did that guy not fix the problem, he charged 60 bucks for his services, pretty unbelivable. I went down to her house and helped her format and install the necessary software, everything went well and the job was completed within 2 hours.

I returned home and went for a jog at the stadium. I let out all the stress bottled up in me throughout the week after the exercise, I feel very relaxed now. I heard that Stella got into NY, I feel really happy for her. Now I'm still left hanging in the air, wondering if my appeal to AJ succeeded. Although the deadline is Tuesday, I've given up hope in the appeal.

The top 5 JCs would have separated the students into their permenant classes by tomorrow. Other JCs like NY are still having mass-lectures and are still in a messy form. It'll definitely be a while before I can settle down properly in a JC...

Class Outing

I met up with my NJ friends, for probably our final outing as a class, at PS. We actually wanted to watch a movie, but all the early timeslots were full as it was the weekends. We then decided to try out Cineleisure, but it turned out that timeslots were full, and some did not want to watch a movie too.

We then went to Lucky Plaza to play pool and the arcade. It was my first time playing pool and it is actually fun to play. My NJ friends play pool very often and I definitely have to learn a thing or two from them.

After that the class kind of splitted up and a few joined their og at Mac and the remaining 3 of us went Long John for dinner. It's sad seeing the class splitting up so quickly. I hope my TRP gang will stick together forever. The three of us also took neoprint as a memento.

Today's class outing ended up as a clique outing... But I'm still happy to be able to see everyone again. I hope my life at NY will be fruitful and memorable.

Demagnetised compass

Right now, I feel that I'm just like a demagnetised compass, without the power to choose the direction I wish to go to. My O level results I probably have made a big mistake by putting AJ as first choice. I should have probably tried to appeal back to NJ. I still feel attached to NJ, thinking about my friends, the college, teachers and all the sweet memories of NJ when I was having orientation at NYJ.

So far there have been no news of my appeal to AJ. Although my friend in AJ said many people there appealed to the top 5 JCs and will probably have space for me, I still feel that the chances of entering AJ are slim.

On Tuesday, the day posting results were released, I went out with several of my close NJ friends. We are all part of a clique "TRP" we formed, and sadly I was the one of two people from that group who has to leave NJ. We went to Causeway's PastaMania for dinner in the evening, we chatted and told jokes. I had a great time. I was so touched when they presented me with a farewell card and a gift at the end. I think that I almost felt like crying but held back.
Three months were all we needed to form such a strong relationship among friends, which I think would be impossible to do so in my secondary school. I'm still thinking of them this very moment...

Today's orientation at NY was fun. We had mass-dance, games and a pizza dinner to wrap up the 2-day long orientation. For the mass-dance we used Summer Sunshine, All-Star and one other song, each for one dance. I still feel that NJ's mass dance was more fun and used songs with more catchy tunes. Luckily for me, the people in my og were all very outgoing and humourous, which made the orientation period even better. The pizza dinner at the end was totally an anti-climax. I thought it'd be a buffet at the canteen. But it was just a gathering along the track for some pizza of low quality (from Pelican Pizza, never heard of) and packet drinks.

I probably will be staying at NYJ as there're nowhere else I can go to. Everything is just happening too fast for me to adapt. I hope to use the 3-day weekend ahead to unwind and settle myself down before the new study term starts next week.
My econs teacher at NJ, Ms Ng, gave me words of encouragement before I left. Those words are spurring me on right now and I'll remember her for the enthusiasm she puts in her teaching and her interesting tutorial style, and definitely for the encouragement she gave me.

Wow, this is probably my longest blog entry so far. There's still until Tuesday to receive any news from AJ, and I'll be eagerly awaiting it.

Last day in NJC

After 3 months of being an NJCian, I'm really proud and excited to have been one. Wearing the Deyi uniform with the NJC collar-pin makes me feel extra-special. Till now, I feel grateful to the great teachers at Deyi who have groomed me into who I am today. I feel proud to represent Deyi at one of the top JCs in Singapore. Teachers at NJC didn't hear of Deyi before, except for a few who were transferred there from my secondary school.

Today was probably my last opportunity to take a ride to NJC as an NJCian. The moment I entered the backgate, I felt a little heldback, feeling that I should not be there at all. But I stood firm and continued in. I reached the canteen, and my classmates greeted me with the usual smiles, only then did I feel the usual way again. Several people did not turn up today, amongst them were those who were pretty much guaranteed a place in NJC. I continued the day as usual, attended assembly, lectures and tutorials.

It was until PE lesson when we had lots of fun. We ran two rounds of warm-up followed by games. We played soccer under the hot sun, not really fun though, but we played till the period ended. My friends decided to stay back a little while for badminton. I joined them and played for about 2 hours. The game was fun! :D

I must say that I've had lots of fun in NJC, totally contradicting my first few posts about my initial experience at NJC then. I've made several good friends, all from different secondary schools, of different personalities and backgrounds. It has been very interesting to mix with students from schools like Catholic High, ACS, Swiss Cottage, Bukit Panjang Govt High, Rivervalley, Commonwealth and many more. Its advantageous that NJC is not affiliated to any secondary schools in Singapore, else students from those schools will flood the college.

There're also different types of teachers at NJC - fierce, enthusiastic, friendly.
Fierce - my chemistry teacher
Enthusiastic - my economics teacher
Friendly - my physics, maths and chinese teachers
My GP teacher is so-so.

I feel that NJC provides a good learning environment for students. There are many spots around the college where there are benches, tables and a serene surrounding for students to study. When tests are coming, these spots will be filled with students.

Tomorrow is the release of the posting results. I hope I'd be able to get into my 1st choice college...

I will definitely miss my NJ friends and wish them all the best!

Robots

I went to watch Robots today with my friends. We actually wanted to watch Series of Unfortunate Events but because tickets for the earlier movie slot were sold out, we had to settle for this.
The movie wasn't really entertaining except for a few parts, but for the fun of watching a movie together with my friends, why not?

After the movie, we had lunch and went to Woodlands library to study. We sat at the cafe and my friends took out their notes and started studying. Even though I'm used to studying alone at home, I thought that I'd just try studying as a group. But we ended up chit-chatting and ordering food. My friends do group studying oftenly and got their As, probably this style just doesn't suit me.
It'll be probably be my last few moments spent with my NJ friends. I've had great times with them and it'll definitely stay in my memories...

IT Show 2005

I went to the IT Show held at Suntec City with my cousins today. The exhibition areas were extremely crowded. We had to squeeze our way through the packs of people to get to the respective booths to buy the hardware. As my cousin wanted to fix up a new computer today, we went to the IT Show to take grab the bargains.

We bought the BenQ DVD Writer which was selling for $20 cheaper than at Sim Lim Square (SLS). Then we bought a Samsung LCD monitor, extension power plugs and a wireless router. We then took MRT back to SLS to collect the PC. By then we were dead beat after walking for almost 2 hours continuously. I went to my cousin's house to help him fix up the computer. The WinXP installation went well, but the overall installation was left hanging. We found out that we bought the wrong router as it did not have a USB connection. My cousin's broadband modem was a USB one, but the router only had an ethernet connection. Argh, we've have to waste time going back to SLS and hope we can exchange for the correct one.

I reached home at around 7:30pm, then took a very refreshing bath and ate dinner. Now I'm sitting infront of the computer, relaxing and sipping a glass of water, heh. I sure hope the router problem can be fixed... Now I'm still worried about the posting results, and wonder if I should appeal into my first choice JC should I not be posted there. Thanks stella and cuz for the well-wishes, wish you all the best too!

Weekends

On Saturday, we met up at Plaza Singapura for a chat. We sat at burger king and ordered drinks plus onion rings. Too bad a few of them had to leave due to other appointments. We all then went to Orchard Road wanting to watch a movie at Cineleisure. But to our disappointment, the earlier slots were all filled up, leaving only 9pm onwards. So we decided to have a long dinner. After some long discussions, we decided on Mos Burger - it's my first time eating there! :D I tried their special rice burger, although quite plain but was delicious. We sat there for about 2 hours and decided to move on. We then actually wanted to play pool at Lucky Plaza but it was full, so we played at the arcade beside it. Everyone left at about 10pm and I reached home at 11pm, very exhausted.

Today, 6 of us decided to crash SAJC. The environment was alright, just that the facilities are worn down. They even have an indoor basketball court, wow! The canteen food is also quite expensive. The average cost is about $2.50 for a western food meal, mixed veg rice or chicken rice. We actually crashed on the wrong day as today was their tutorial day, so there weren't many lectures that we could go to. We only managed to attend one lecture which was chemistry. It was as boring as any other lectures in NJ though...
In the afternoon, we watched Hitch at PS. The love doctor thing, heh. It was funny though. Everyone enjoyed it. School tomorrow again... hopefully it'll be fun.

It's also the closure of the JAE today. Hopefully I'll be able to get into AJC.
NJC has definitely given me a great experience. At least I know what it feels like being part of a one of the top JCs, and also get to know the type of people there.

Not up to expectations...

Well, results are out:
English A2
Chinese B3
E Maths A1
A Maths A1
Phy A2
Chem A2
Bio A2
Combined Humanities (Geog/SS) B3...
L1R5 - 11...

I was expecting a single digit L1R5 score. Eleven is definitely way off the mark. I don't know why I did so badly in combined humanities. I'm confident of my Geography, probably it's my social studies that pulled down the grade. How I wish my school offered a single humanities subject instead of combined.
Getting straight A2s for all science subjects is a bad, bad thing... Luckily I got A1s for my Maths subjects, else my aggregate would be even worse.

I probably will not be able to make it to NJC, maybe not even AJC. NYJC is not a bad choice either, it's quite a popular choice among my secondary school peers.
But on the whole, this year's batch of students did my secondary school proud by achieving the best results in the school's history. What a historic moment indeed.

Hey guys, you can tag your results and JC/Poly of your choice on my tagboard. :D
